Philosophy: Create good skiers first... then great racers.

We feel that skiing fundamentals are the first step in developing an elite ski racer. Alpine skiing is a technical sport that requires the refinement of basic skills. The ABC's of movement skills include Agility, Balance, and Coordination. All racers have the opportunity for self-development through structured practiced and balanced competition. A strong team commitment is important and emphasized at all times.

Requirements, Rules and Expectations:

Academics are #1: Balancing schoolwork and ski team activities is crucial, eligibility rules do apply. Outlined is the HSPS Athletic Handbook found on the forms of the school website. 

Ability: Athlete must be able to get on and off the lift, ski down the hill, and use the tow rope. 

Attendance: Attendance is expected. If missing a scheduled practice or meet, written notice (e-mail or text) by a parent is required in advance (if possible).

Culture: A positive and encouraging culture and environment between and toward all teammates, coached, parents, bus drivers, and ski area personnel is expected at all times. 

Respect yourself, each other, the equipment, and the areas which we train, race, and travel. 

Discipline: Poor sportsmanship / attitude, unexcused absences, foul language, etc. will result in disciplinary actions such as suspension or dismissal of the team. 

Equipment: Helmet required (chin guard required for slalom races). Skis must be maintained properly and have indemnified /compliant bindings; ski technician certified. Poles with baskets. Boots that the athlete can flex in cold temperatures. Goglles, warm layered clothing, gloves/mittends (or guards for them), neck warmer, ski socks (preferable non-cotton). Non-mandatory items: speed suits, padded gloved, guards for shins, forearms, and ski pole guards. 

Team Jackets: Jackets are distributed to athletes at the beginning of the season. A deposit is half and returned at the end of the season when the jacket is returned in clean and good condition. Team jackets are only to be worn to school related events and functions. It is mandatory they be worn for race events.
